The traveller of VietnamSpiritTravel tell the truth of the Coronavirus in Vietnam on February 4, 2020
1) What is a coronavirus?
Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses, which cause illnesses ranging from a simple cold (some seasonal viruses are coronaviruses) to more severe conditions such as MERS or SARS. The virus identified in Wuhan in December 2019 is a novel coronavirus. It was named 2019-nCoV.
2019-nCoV originates from a seafood market in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China, and like other viruses in the same family, it was transmitted by animals. Inter-human transmission occurs through contact with bodily fluids of infected people.
The disease manifests as fever, persistent cough, and shortness of breath. Symptoms usually appear 4 to 14 days after exposure to an infected person.
2) What is the current situation in Vietnam?
According to figures from the Ministry of Health, as of February 4, 2020, Vietnam officially had 9 confirmed cases of contamination placed in quarantine: two Chinese from Wuhan and seventh Vietnamese returning from the epicenter of the epidemic. Two person has been cured, others are hospitalized and their health remains stable. The situation is therefore under control.
3) What have the Vietnamese authorities put in place?
As soon as China announced the health risks linked to the epidemic, the Vietnamese authorities implemented a series of preventive measures:
??? Creation of a national committee responsible for combating the epidemic, which is chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister.
??? Activation of the crisis management mechanism in all the provinces and cities of the country. This mechanism involves, among other things, the provision of a set of specialized hospitals, the creation of rapid reaction units, strict passenger screening at airports, with detection by thermal cameras in international terminals. Any suspicious case is therefore detected and quickly quarantined.
??? Suspension of all flights to and from regions affected by the epidemic.
??? Stop issuing visas to people from Wuhan and regions affected by the epidemic.
??? Public health prevention mission: regular hand washing, wearing a mask in case of cough and fever and dissemination of preventive measures on most of the country's distribution channels.
4) Should you cancel your trip to Vietnam to date?
Even if we must remain very vigilant in the face of the evolution of the epidemic, there is no reason to date to panic or cancel his trip to Vietnam, for several reasons:
??? In its press release of January 31, the WHO (World Health Organization) does not recommend restricting travel, trade and [population] movements, and even opposes any travel restrictions.
??? The Vietnamese authorities also do not recommend restrictions on movement within the country. The intense trips linked to the T??t festivities were all assured.
??? So far, no tourist site in Vietnam has been affected by the disease, especially since the majority of the sites offered by VietnamSpiritTravel are not frequented by mass tourism.
??? On the ground, the situation is under control and the population does not encounter psychosis.
??? The figures must be proven, but also compared (and put in perspective) with much more serious epidemics, such as for example the seasonal flu, malaria, or with past epidemic episodes, like the Ebola virus or that of SARS.
