Tết – A New Year Miracle in Vietnam

On New Year's Eve,
the sky lights up with fireworks, but the true heart of Tết lies
within each family—the reunion meal, the rituals to remember
ancestors, and the moment when the old year is closed to welcome
the new.
Tết: The New Year Miracle in Vietnam – A Personal Journey by Jari

A Personal Travel Report by Jari Einiö
My first experience of Tết in Vietnam left a deeper impression on me than any other festival I have seen in the world. The cities seem to slow down for a moment, families reunite, and there is always a sense of anticipation and hope for a new beginning in the air. On the streets, people sell peach blossoms, kumquat trees, and red decorations—symbols of good luck for the coming year.
Especially in Hanoi, the atmosphere becomes incredibly unique. In the Old Quarter, people carry their Tết shopping, the scent of incense drifts from the temples, and vibrant traditional Ao Dai are everywhere. On New Year's Eve, the sky lights up with fireworks, but the true heart of Tết lies within each family—the reunion meal, the rituals to remember ancestors, and the moment when the old year is closed to welcome the new.
For travelers, Tết is a doorway into the soul of Vietnamese culture. It is not just a festival; it is an emotion—hope, family, and belief in a better future. Perhaps that is why so many people always want to return to Vietnam—including me.
Happy New Year, Jari.

Happy New Year, Jari.
